Below is an extract from the tutorial covering how to set up correct
tonal correction for film separation.
TONAL CORRECTIONS
Once you have rotated and cropped the image you need to check the
images histogram to make sure that appropriate levels for
the white and black points were captured.
Either select the Histogram option under the Image menu or select
Levels from the Image>Adjust sub menu. The histogram report will
give you a graphic indication of the amount of pixels from white
through to black. You cannot do any adjustments within the histogram
unit, but by using the Levels command you can fine tune the tonal
distribution between the white and black points as displayed by
the Histogram.
The easiest way to set the correct white and black levels is to
double click the white and black eyedroppers and type in the following:
